So for our first installment, we would like to introduce State Representative John Wright. Representative Wright did a wonderful job at our recent State GOP Convention and with all the buzz surrounding that event we thought he would be a perfect fit to be our first Republican of the Month.

Why did you become a Republican?
The first election that I participated in as a voter was the 1972 presidential election. In examining the core convictions of the two parties, philosophically I find myself aligning with the principals of the republican party.
What is your favorite thing about being an elected official?
My favorite thing about being an elected official is the opportunity to work on public policy ideas and to work with the people who care about those ideas. Good public policy can stand up to questions, debate, discussion and analysis. Helping to examine the possible results of implementing an idea is an intellectual challenge I enjoy.
What is your most memorable experience with a famous Republican?
My most memorable experience with a famous Republican, especially in light of his recent death, was attending a rally in San Diego at which Jack Kemp and Bob Dole held an outdoor campaign rally. The setting, the excitement of the crowd, and the hopeful expectation made for an exciting day
When you leave office, how do you want people to remember you?
I have told a member of the other side of the aisle that I did not come to the capitol to make friends, not that one seeks to intentionally offend, but I would like to be remembered when I leave office as someone who did their homework and studied the issues, knew where they stood on the issues, was willing to stand and defend his convictions and voted his conscience.
If you could have dinner with 3 people (living or dead) who would it be?
If I could have dinner with three people living or dead who would it be? My father, because so much was left unsaid when he died, my mother with my wife, because there is so much I would like to tell her and I believe she would enjoy my wife's company and be pleased with my chosen spouse.
